About the Series
International treaties, including Conferences of the Parties, have been signed and global warming countermeasures are being proposed all over the world. Resources on this page are drawn from the Uehiro-Carnegie-Oxford Conference, ""Global Warming: Environmental Ethics and Its Practice"", which took place at Carnegie Council in New York in October 2015, with an international group of participants.
Professor Julian Savulescu reviews some of the psychological factors that contribute to the Tragedy of the Commons. He discusses some of the interventions that have been explored in Oxford harnessing psychological heuristics to increase cooperation and altruism, including use of nudge, reputational concerns, and other psychological mechanisms. Savulescu explores the ethics of harnessing such psychological forces to effect more moral behavior.
